Baby Birds From Hatching to Flying Away…

Last summer my 8 year old daughter, Natalie, discovered a robin’s nest very low in a shrub next to our house. She began checking on it periodically. I told her not to disturb the momma bird too often, so it was a big deal to her when it was time to check the nest.   I was amazed to catch this process and even more amazed at how fast it was from hatching to flying away.

On July 9, 2011, Natalie and Lila checked the nest and found 3 birds very recently hatched…

We checked them again 4 days later – July 13th…  Oh, but one was missing.  We looked around to see if it fell out somehow,  but there was no hint of what happened to it…

We checked again on 7/16/11 and they were full of feathers and hungry.  I think they thought we were  the momma robin ready to feed them…

Little did we know that 7/21/11 was the last time we would see them before they flew away…  I never knew it happened so quickly.  They are fully feathered & looking ready to burst out of the nest.

Bye Bye birdies and thanks for sharing with us… :-)
