Chocolate covered pretzel rods have a real “WOW” factor with the kids and they are so simple. My daughter and her friend made these for their classmates. For 30 rods, it takes:
- 2 bags of pretzel rods
- 1 bag of white chocolate chips (I love Ghiradehli!)
- 1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips (I love Ghiradehli!)
- 1 jar of sprinkles
- Wax paper & pans to let them set on
Each girl took a bag of chocolate chips, put them in a microwave safe bowl and melted it slowly in the microwave 30 seconds – 1 minute at a time, stirring in between until the chips were completely melted. It needs to be done slowly in the microwave to avoid burning the chocolate.
Using the back of their stirring spoons, the girls spread the chocolate on half of each pretzel rod. Note that the white chocolate is more clumpy than the semi-sweet chocolate, so it was a little more difficult to spread. I had them re-warm it a little in the microwave to make it easier to spread again. Each time they finished spreading chocolate on a rod, they would shake some sprinkles onto the rod and lay it on a pan covered with wax paper.
When the pan was full, I would place the pan in the refrigerator for a few minutes to speed up the setting. Once all the pretzels were done and set, I put them in a container, layered between wax paper, and stored them in the refrigerator over night.
The kids at school loved them and the girls got to say…
“We made them!”.
